Changing the Identity of a Square: "Little Dancer"

Shape design-Consist of a Figure-Ground Relationship; Avoiding "Shasttershot" Designing; When “Non-Objective” meets the “Real World”
(Abstract)

Format:
8" x 10" format was required for this design

Materials & Tools:
Black Construction Paper Figures
Bristol Paper/Board Ground Sheet (not Drawing/Sketch Paper)
Rubber Cement Glue (don't use White Glue)
"Pic-Up" Square (Cleans off Rubber Cement Glue)
Scissors, Xacto Knife, or Paper Cutter (Optional)
Self-Healing Mat (if using Xacto Knife)

Objective: Cut pieces of black construction paper and glue required figures onto the 8"x 10" white Bristol ground to create a abstract design. The design must be flat with no overlapping, but interlocking, mutual tension, abutting, continuity, and etc, may be used.

Significance: It gives the viewer the vision of a free-spirited person (of chosen gender) or object with the complexness and/or ruggedness of the shapes used. It brings out the sense of happiness as well as a playful side to the abstrct form......it's also quite cute. ^_^

Changing the Identity of a Square

Shape design-Consist of a Figure-Ground Relationship; Avoiding "Shasttershot" Designing; A Square design
(Non-Objective)

Format:
8" x 10" format was required for this design

Materials & Tools:
Black Construction Paper Figures
Bristol Paper/Board Ground Sheet (not Drawing/Sketch Paper)
Rubber Cement Glue (don't use White Glue)
"Pic-Up" Square (Cleans off Rubber Cement Glue)
Scissors, Xacto Knife, or Paper Cutter (Optional)
Self-Healing Mat (if using Xacto Knife)

Objective: Cut pieces of black construction paper and glue required figures onto the 8"x 10" white Bristol ground to create non-objective design that still retains the essences of a square. The design must be flat with no overlapping, but interlocking, mutual tension, abutting, continuity, and etc, may be used.

Significance: It gives the viewer the essences of a square, but in the way that the mind completes it for them. The shapes inside the incomplete square shows the complication it has to complete it's as if it were a puzzle of some sort. The figures also give the incomplete square a sense of abstraction to it as well.

Combination Formating

Line Design-Consist of the Combination of Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal, and Curve/Fluid Lines
(Non-Objective)

Format:
8" x 9" format was required for this design

Materials & Tools:
Black Construction Paper
Bristol Paper/Board Ground Sheet (not Drawing/Sketch Paper)
Rubber Cement Glue (don't use White Glue)
"Pic-Up" Square (Cleans off Rubber Cement Glue)
Scissors, Xacto Knife, or Paper Cutter (Optional)
Self-Healing Mat (if using Xacto Knife)

Objective: Cut pieces of black construction paper and glue required pieces onto the 8"x 9" white Bristol ground to create non-objective design using a combination of horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and curved/fluid line. A flat 2-D design using figure-ground relationship.

Significance: Gives the viewer the sense of control and confinement the figure (black) in the ground (white) area. Also the use of line types.

Curve Formating

Line Design-Consist of Curve/Fluid Lines
(Non-Objective)

Format:
8" x 9" format was required for this design

Materials & Tools:
Black Construction Paper
Bristol Paper/Board Ground Sheet (not Drawing/Sketch Paper)
Rubber Cement Glue (don't use White Glue)
"Pic-Up" Square (Cleans off Rubber Cement Glue)
Scissors, Xacto Knife, or Paper Cutter (Optional)
Self-Healing Mat (if using Xacto Knife)

Objective: Cut pieces of black construction paper and glue required pieces onto the 8"x 9" white Bristol ground to create non-objective design using curved/fluid lines. A flat 2-D design using figure-ground relationship.

Significance: Gives the viewer the sense of control and confinement the figure (black) in the ground (white) area, but has of feel of freeness, open, and uncontrolled in an controlled area.

Diagonal Formating

Line Design-Consist of Diagonal Lines
(Non-Objective)

Format:
8" x 9" format was required for this design

Materials & Tools:
Black Construction Paper
Bristol Paper/Board Ground Sheet (not Drawing/Sketch Paper)
Rubber Cement Glue (don't use White Glue)
"Pic-Up" Square (Cleans off Rubber Cement Glue)
Scissors, Xacto Knife, or Paper Cutter (Optional)
Self-Healing Mat (if using Xacto Knife)

Objective: Cut pieces of black construction paper and glue required pieces onto the 8"x 9" white Bristol ground to create non-objective design using diagonal lines. A flat 2-D design using figure-ground relationship.

Significance: Gives the viewer the sense of reflection and comparison to both figures (black) in the ground (white) area. It also gives off the feel of togetherness as both figures looks as though they are coming together in a form of harmony.
